Digital Divide

My students need classroom charging stations, usb charging cords and headphones for classroom use to ramp up our technology center in the math classroom.

My Students

Through learning experiences in my algebra classroom, I desire for my students to become 21st Century thinkers and doers as they learn to problem solve using technology. With an accessorized technology center in my classroom, my students will thrive.

The seventy-five 8th grade students in my inclusion classroom are eager and excited to enhance their mathematical experiences with a new technology station within our classroom!

They are responsible, respectful and striving to be successful in their educational pursuits. While our suburban school serves families of various ethnic backgrounds, many students are English language learners, and as a Title 1 school, the approximately 70% of students in our building come from poverty stricken homes. Our school fosters a family atmosphere and all staff works hard to eliminate any economic and academic inequities that develop and thwart student achievement.

My Project

By using these basic accessories we're requesting, I can create a technology center in the classroom. Students will be able to continually use digital devices without fear of a battery dying. With being able to charge multiple devices throughout the day, instruction will not be interrupted with students needing to charge devices without access to a charger and time on task will not be lost. Due to the economic constraints, many students do not own a set of headphones which are needed for differentiated digital activities. I will be able to address the needs of struggling learners through Response to Instruction (RTI) and better support learners with special needs. A fully accessorized technology center will provide students with increased opportunities to enhance their learning by using technology as tool for problem solving as well as using their digital tools to demonstrate proficiency with Common Core State Math Standards and Common Core State Mathematical Practice Standards.

A classroom technology center would be one of the best gifts I could give my students to ensure they are college and career ready.

With the accessories, the student centered classroom culture will grow, while students' digital literacy and proficiency in the math classroom will increase. Help us close the digital divide. It takes a village not only to raise a child, but also to educate a child. How will you help today?
