My classroom is a place where students collaborate with their peers to complete tasks. Students are given the opportunity to incorporate their individual voices in to projects that prompt self-reflection. Students are encouraged to push the boundaries with technology.
My students attend an interdistrict magnet school in Connecticut that concentrates on information technology.
My school aims to provide a space to nurture passionate investigators who will one day develop solutions for our world. 70% of my students are from one of the lowest performing districts in the state, which has a 66% graduation rate (2012). 90% of my students qualify for free/reduced lunch. My school serves students from multiple regions of the state, and as a result, students display a spectrum of abilities and diversity. Their individual voices inspire and teach me every day.
My Project
My school is currently developing a course on Apps development in partnership with a local university. In this class, students will be pushed to develop 21st century skills, including problem solving, creativity, innovation, and communication. Students will have the opportunity to work in groups or to work individually to develop apps for a changing world. After students develop apps, students will use these tablets to test and troubleshoot their apps. After checking for bugs, students will then use the tablets to upload their work into the Google store.
This project will allow students to practice their apps on a state-of-the-art tablet.
Students will be able to practice their skills in the safety of a classroom to get ready for the workforce.
