My students need an easel to display the big books required by our curriculum, a big book rack to allow access to the big books, and bins for access to heavy books.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice." -Nelson Mandela
My school is in a high-poverty neighborhood in Detroit.
100% of our students receive free lunch. Our school is currently listed by Detroit Public Schools as "priority". I have two classes of thirty students for ELA, totaling in 60 students! They are full of personality and love to learn.
My Project
These resources will allow access to our classroom library. The bookshelf is currently lined with heavy books that the first graders cannot take out on their own. The book bins will create a safer shelf that my students can use. There are no magnetic surfaces in our room, so the easel will be used for word work centers. It will also be used to display the "Big Books" required by our curriculum.
Our district currently has the highest rate of absenteeism in the country, and your donation will help create an environment that students will want to come learn in every day.
A safe, hands-on environment will foster a life long love of learning for my students.
