Teacher Professional Development: I need to become a member of ASCA and sign up for their School Counseling Data Specialist course. This will help me to improve my skills.<profdevpilot>
It is key that we continue to strive and improve ourselves if we are going to improve the lives of our students. Data is a key piece in improving things. This course will allow me to do just that.
I have been working as a School Counselor for the past 8 years.
I have had the chance to take one ASCA certification and obtained my Bullying Specialist Certification. However, due to budget cuts my school cannot afford to let me take the data one. By joining ASCA I will not only be able to become a data specialist helping our district use data to improve students' academics and increase emotion regulation but I will have access to the many C.E.U's that ASCA offers. This is a chance of a lifetime to get this training and then put it into action and make a huge difference in my professional development.
My Project
I will use these materials to help our current school counseling program so that we are more effective in meeting our students using data-driven decisions. This professional development will give me the tools to look at data and use it to make decisions that will impact the students' academics and emotion regulation skills. I will also have access to all the CEUs that ASCA offers allowing me to learn various skills to apply and use in our school. This professional development will impact not only this year's students but students for many years as I learn these skills and apply them.
This is a chance of a lifetime and I am so thankful to Bill and Melinda Gates for giving me the chance to make this a reality.
We know that to be the best educators we can be we must continue to learn however, often there are no funds for that learning. So this is huge to get the training and become a data specialist.
