My Students

Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? My students have not yet discovered historical fiction books that capture their imaginations, but they have also not yet met Avi.

My students have a rich, cultural background and are incredibly hardworking.

My students love hands-on learning and reading about characters they can relate to in some way. My students show respect for diversity and bring their own unique perspective to class discussion each and every day. While our school is very old, we make the most with what we have.

My Project

Having an engaging and well-crafted classroom novel will give students the gift of finishing a wonderful book, cover to cover. Many students lose interest when reading books independently, so I want to support their learning by reading a full-length book together over the course of a month. My students will not only learn about story elements, and practice critical reading skills, such as predicting, inferring, and visualizing, but they will also learn about the middle ages through this amazing historical fiction novel.

Seeing the world through the eyes of a peasant during the Middle Ages will be an engaging way to support my student's reading comprehension skills, and make connections to our study of Medieval times in Social Studies.

This cross-curricular novel, Crispin, is one of the best examples of historical fiction that my students will be sure to love!
