Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Who says there is no time for painting, or making collages, or building something with clay? I do! Our school is the only IB Elementary School in Central Florida. We are not only allowing our students to use art materials, we encourage and foster the use of various mediums.
IB programmes promote the education of the whole person, emphasizing intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth through all domains of knowledge.
By focusing on the dynamic combination of knowledge, skills, independent critical and creative thought and international-mindedness, the IB espouses the principle of educating the whole person for a life of active, responsible citizenship. The concept of education of the whole person as a lifelong process. The learner profile is a
profile of the whole person as a lifelong learner.
The IB Programme makes it possible to create more experiences and opportunities in the classroom that fosters students to be genuine inquires, for students to interact with each other in group-work activities & encourage effective teamwork within those groups and lastly it encourages creativity and various ways of expression through the end of unit, or more formally called, Summative Projects.
My Project
A key component of the IB model is to foster our students to be creative and inquirers. We encourage them to "wonder" and be in charge of their own learning. We encourage critical thinking, questioning & synthesizing through our units of study and the implementation of state standards. We foster creativity and collaboration daily through small and whole group activities. Being an IB School is such a magical experience, for the students and the teachers. We are educating our lifelong learners to strive to be Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers Communicators, Principled, Open-Minded, Caring, Risk-Takers, Balanced and Reflective.
Lastly, I encourage my students to take action. Taking action means that we see a need in our school or community and we do something about it. We will use our art materials to help us while taking action - from making flyers and posters to help with various community events, to creating items to donate to the community for holidays or special occasions.
Although we are an IB School, we are still a public school and still receive only public funds.
Therefore, little monies are remaining for art supplies, for the necessary supplies needed for our creative students to express themselves. These varied art supplies will allow my students to be more creative than ever and really express their learning as the standards of IB require. Please help me nurture these lifelong learners by providing these art supplies and materials for my students.
