Creating with Chromebooks

My students need 10 chromebooks in order to create and edit their own films, clay animation, and learn computer graphics for graphic design and gaming.

My Students

On a typical day in my classroom you will see students engaged in art projects ranging from still life drawing to paper mache sculptures to clay vessels. Individual and collaborative work creates opportunities for new learning, as my students are eager to soak up the world around them.

As I look at my students, I see the faces of children that come from over 40 different countries and speak more than 45 different languages.

These are the faces of children eager and willing to create and express themselves. One hundred percent of the students at my school, the largest middle school in Philadelphia, receive free lunch. My art classroom bustles with creativity and yet I see a vast digital divide because my students lack access to technology which adds dimension and possibility to the art we can create together.

My Project

Working with Chromebooks, students will be able to create and edit their own films, clay animation, edit photos and learn computer graphics for graphic design and gaming. Students will be able to research artists and artwork to inspire them and create a digital portfolio to showcase all of their artwork. These portfolios can be used for many of my students who are applying to special-admit high schools for visual art.

By funding this project, you will be changing the education of my students by allowing them to learn in a 21st century classroom, by providing the technology tools needed for them to compete in a society regardless of their economic status, and by helping them prepare for high school.
