My students need 24 book sets on different reading levels because many of my students are reading below grade level and do not have adequate books for their reading level.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school puts a large emphasis on daily reading. Each day, we start our day with 20 minutes of reading. Not only are our students reading, but our staff and faculty are reading as well! Our students love reading; however, our school is in need of books on every level to increase student understanding.
My students are from the inner-city and attend a public charter school.
The majority (96%) of my students receive free lunch. My students are always wanting to learn and enjoy the challenge they are presented in our college preparatory curriculum. My school focuses on not just getting our students out of the current grade, but ensuring they are on a successful track to become college graduates. It is our school's goal to inspire all students to succeed both in school and in life.
My Project
Our school's English department will utilize these books to reach every learner on every level. Each year, we have many students that come to us from area schools that are not always on grade level. As a department, we work diligently to meet each student at their independent levels. However, we do not have leveled readers to be successful in this task. By having this project funded, we will be successfully reaching all students in our building by allowing them to independently read books that are on their level, whether they are a first grader with a fifth grade reading level, or a fifth grader with a second grade reading level.
Reading is a fundamental life skill that every student needs to excel.
By allowing our students the chance to find books that are on their level, we are allowing them to be successful in this endeavor. By donating to this project, you are opening up a world of experience for students to be engage and active life-long readers.
