Creating a Fifth Grade Library Together!

My Students
Books! Books! Books! My classroom is in dire need of fiction and nonfiction books for my students to read.
My class is comprised of 28 fifth grade students from diverse cultural backgrounds who attend an urban Math/Science/Technology Magnet Elementary School. Approximately 70% of the school population have been identified as disadvantaged or "Title I." The students have a varied range in reading abilities.
My Project
An expanded classroom library with fiction and nonfiction books will facilitate students to read individually, in partnerships, and in literature circles. Through reading, students will develop comprehension skills, expand vocabulary, and develop collaboration skills and a love of reading. In addition the literature will be mentor texts or models for their developing writing.
Students will LOVE to have an expanded classroom library. The books will hone their skills in comprehension, vocabulary, writing, and collaboration and promote a LOVE of reading. Through your generous donations, this can be a reality for my classroom of students for years to come.
