My students need to be prepared for college and by using Understanding Rhetoric, a somewhat dry subject is able to come alive. A class set of books would open doors!

My Students
My classroom is a room with four walls that houses young people who are are "revolutions carried within vessels". Each day I try to ignite their fires so they can go to college ready and able to challenge their assumptions and make decisions with purpose and intention.
My students are hungry for knowledge but distracted by worry.
My students are eager to please but scared to fail. My students are wholehearted and kind but confused and insecure. My students are the kids who don't just say things but actually have things to say. While they have materials to help them get into college, they don't have access to the college level materials they need to succeed once they are there.
My students are capable of greatness!
My Project
Each of the books purchased/donated would be checked into our classroom library and every student who enters into my class would have access to the book. I would use it as a mentor/guiding text for the course and would be able to check books out to those students who need extra time at home.
Every lesson would be centered on the content of the book and since it's a text used in freshmen level college composition classes, my students would be ready for English at a four year or two year university.
I believe that education is power.
And with this power, everyone benefits. Jobs are created and filled, families are fed and housed, and generations are lifted from cycles of poverty. education changes the world and everyone benefits from a happier, healthier society. Success for one is success for all.
