My students need new gadgets like digital cameras, wireless headphones and timers for our classroom, and accessories to maximize the use of the technology we already have!
Technology is a part of my students' lives outside of school and I wanted it to also be incorporated in their school experience. I do not want it to replace the fun activities that kindergarten is all about, but to enhance these activities and tasks to continue to make learning engaging and fun!
At our school, more than 65% of our students come from low-income families.
Which is why I am committed to integrating technology in my classroom in order to ensure that ALL my students are exposed to the technology that other kids their age get to use at home on a daily basis. My class specifically is made up of 18 little kindergartners, half of who are native Spanish speakers and the other half are native English speakers. They are very excited about learning and need the right tools and materials to do so!
My Project
I am asking for 5 digital cameras for students to use on a variety of literacy and math activities, such as "picture hunts" where students are taking pictures of objects that start with a certain vowel, consonants, have 2 syllables, etc. or a list of objects that they have to READ and find. They could take a picture of their favorite activity/place/pet and write all about it. For math I can ask them to make a collection of 10 objects and take a picture of it or walk around the school and take a picture of all the number 3's they can find. So many possibilities and so much fun while learning!! The cube timers will help them be accountable for managing their time during independent activities. These are super easy to use and kid-friendly! They will use the wireless headphones with our tablets to prevent broken tablets when they move (remember these are kindergartners!). Lastly, the rest of the items I am requesting will protect and make our gadgets work (like rechargeable batteries), so they are functional and ready when they arrive!
In this day and time we all know how important it is to be familiar with new technology.
