My Students

Reading is not simply looking at the words on a page. Reading is all about getting involved with your story! Students need an opportunity to hear expression with reading as often as they can. Listening to reading is one of the most basic skills that can help a child.

My students come from a very rural town in Kentucky.

These second grade students live in an area where they weren't always read to when they were growing up. Some of these kiddos didn't see a book until they entered Kindergarten. I am trying to give my students a big exposure to books so that they will love and appreciate reading.

My Project

Our reading block focuses on student independence. During their reading block, students work in small groups to read to themselves, read to each other, work on their writing skills and spelling skills, and finally listen to audio books. That's where you can help! We need books to listen to! My kids are so eager to read as many books as they can, their love is growing! They want new material and I'm so excited to supply them with that.
