Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The work will teach you how to do it."-Estonian proverb My students create real-world web sites and conduct community service projects for non-profit organizations. We want to build student leaders by encouraging them to give back to the community. Our whole purpose is to be of maximum service.

My students come from the poorest city within our state.

We are 98% minority. Our class has a rich tradition of creating web sites for any and all non-profit organizations. Our students have expanded into conducting community service projects such as the Recycling Club, raising money for young cancer survivors, creating anti-bullying websites, and peer tutoring of struggling students. Our school is full of geeks and nerds which makes it a pleasure to come here every day. There is a great sense that since we are all impoverished we must help each other escape from the grip of poverty and secure a solid education. The class that I have the honor of directing achieves the goal of providing service to our community.

My Project

Please allow one of my former students tell you about the impact of the type of trip I am trying to organize: "Hi, Mr. T. Hope this message finds you well! This is one of your students from LHS graduating class of 2004. I am writing to thank you for the difference you made in my education, career and life. I appreciated the mentorship I received as it was valuable in my success after high school. I was part of your YTE class and our team won the first prize during the competition. That was my very first experience making PowerPoint's. The process of preparing and presenting was critical to my future success as it built my confidence and also provided me with important presentation skills. After high school, I graduated from Bowdoin College with a full-tuition scholarship and worked at IBM Consulting for 3 years. In 2011, I joined a non-profit focused on cancer research and I am now a Technology Project Manager."

We will use this donation to conduct community service projects.

We will use the transportation funding to take advantage of FREE Microsoft Store software training in a four-part adventure. We will visit the store and trainers will share their expertise with our students. We will review proper techniques of how to e-mail and use Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint. We will then use those skills to conduct community
