Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a first year teacher, I have the opportunity to teach a high school painting class. We are willing and able to paint a large mural of an eagle to represent our local elementary school. With this mural project, my high school students will be given the chance to expand their talents as well as give back to our community.
Our school resides in a small town with a large community support.
It is a low socioeconomic school with a large Hispanic population. My students have advanced greatly under the leadership of two brand new Art teachers.
Most students are focused and eager to learn about art and create fantastic projects. I hope to continue expanding their minds, as well as our art program with the aid of willing supporters as yourself.
It is difficult yet creative by far to come up with applicable projects with little supplies. We do what we can and we are thankful for what we have. Thank you for your interest and time reading about this project and our students.
My Project
I have requested large paint brushes and mural paint to begin our mural. After learning the basics of painting and color theory, we will develop a plan and a schedule. Our mural may be an ongoing project that will hopefully expand into an after school Art club for our school as well. Painting can be a difficult skill to learn. We will study the history of painting and discuss modern day muralists. This will be a problem solving project, and will be rewarding.
Learning to mix paint and create a slew of colors will also be exciting. We will also discuss form and value to create our Eagle mascot for the local elementary school. Paint brush techniques will also be instilled.
Our project will brighten up the town.
This mural will be public for all to see, as well as represent our country's bird of honor. The elementary students will look up to our high school students as they create a work of art for their school and community. My high school students will take pride in their hard work for years to come.
