Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A typical day in our library includes about 300-400 students coming in throughout the day to check out books to read. The library opens at 7:15 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. in order to accommodate every child's needs. As the librarian, I also conduct classes from Pre-K to 5th grade on a daily basis.
Our 687 students are eager to learn and become independent researchers.
They are inquisitive and love visiting the library to enjoy reading books and gather knowledge. The majority of our students are labeled at risk and we service many bilingual students. We have a great school where the staff is committed to our students. We instill the love of reading in every student.
My Project
Our library is a safe haven for many of our students. Many of our patrons come in before and afterschool. At times, there are a few students who can't go outside to Physical Education Class. Those students love to come into the library with their books and read. We also recommend books for them to read. Reading a great book is an escape from reality for some of our students. Currently we have no comfortable seating in our library. The majority of our students sit on the floor which is covered with carpet. This lounge furniture will allow our students to cozy up on a sofa, covered with a blanket, while enjoying an amazing book!
These donations can truly make a difference in our school.
Our children will love coming into our warm and inviting library. Visits to the library will definitely improve our students' reading skills. As their reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and writing skills improve...so will their self-esteem and confidence. Our goal is to create life long learners and independent researchers.
