Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are requesting a set of colored pencils for an extremely talented and prolific group of artists, aged 5-12 in The Bronx. Despite a extremely tight budget, the arts are alive and well at BLCS. We want to give our students the best arts education possible. Please support our request!
BLCS infuses arts throughout the curriculum.
Art truly can be connected with any subject and we try to provide our students with a cutting edge art program.
At our school, we prepare our scholars through rigorous programs that provide them with a foundation that will allow them to succeed in and graduate from college. Our unique arts-infused curriculum, emphasis on social development and integration of diverse cultural opportunities augments learning and broadens horizons.
I can say with absolute sincerity that it would be a struggle for many of the families who send students to our school to pay for Prismacolor Pencils. Our dreams are big; and we want the best for our students, but our budget is limited. Our school is located in a section of the Bronx where test grades are chronically low, and we are trying to change that! Our students are INCREDIBLY TALENTED and take very good care of the resources given to them. The kids inspire me every day!
My Project
Prismacolor Pencils are high quality but expensive. Many of our students have expressed interest in learning colored pencils but mixing colors is impossible with the simple, student grade set that we have now. The only thing that is possible with the current set, is filling in solid areas of color, but when an artist draws a face, he/she must be able to blend colors together, to match the variations of a flesh tone due to light.
I think very highly of the talents of my students!
They work very hard in art class and have developed as artists. When I teach my students how to do a self portrait, I want them to have the best supplies possible, because improper supplies create bad habits.
