College Bound Students Need New Reading Opportunities!
My students need a variety of vibrant new novels of different genres and mediums for our classroom lending library. These include "Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe," "The 5th Wave" and "Divergent."
Pushing my lower level readers is a challenge our school faces everyday. With just a little extra help, most of our students who are low level readers will become college bound. To reach that goal, they just need to work a little harder and be actively engaged.
There are some major impediments to getting the books that our students need to build their reading stamina and fluency.
Our high school's media center has not had funding for the past five years. The titles available to the students are becoming woefully out of date. My own classroom lending library is full of vibrant reading materials that excite and engage, but there are only so many books to go around.
My Project
I would like to supplement my classroom's lending library with the selected 21 novels for the benefit of my low-level readers. By having exciting new books readily available like "Legend", "Batgirl" and "Halo", my students will increase their reading levels through the amount of time they spend reading. They will also broaden their exposure to many different types of books they are able to read.
