This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classroom is TINY! We have huge, broken tables that take up most of the room. Their size is prohibitive and we have very little room to move around and complete activities. Most activities need to be moved to the gym or hallway. Neither is ideal as we might disrupt other classes.

I teach primarily 6th grade at an urban international school in Colorado.

Each class period is 90 minutes long and feels longer in cramped quarters. I try to break up the class period into three 30 minute segments so that students can move around and refocus. My students are motivated, inquisitive, passionate, curious, and driven.

My Project

I am requesting 8 sturdy tables to complete collaborative projects and daily assignments throughout the school year. New tables would give students and myself more space to move around the classroom and create a larger area to stage activities. Our current tables are too big for the room and falling apart. I have requested new tables but none are available from the district. We need to give our students the basic materials to be successful in school. Sturdy tables help me invite students into my classroom and fosters a collaborative environment as we complete a variety of group activities.

You donation will help me create the classroom I've always wanted.

I prefer tables to desks to increase peer-to-peer interaction and collaboration. Students will benefit by attending a class that meets their most basic needs at school. They will have a place to sit and do their work. I view my classroom as a place for students to learn, grow, and explore. Try doing that without a table.
