This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
How exciting would it be for kids to create their own video games and websites? They don’t need to be programing experts, but I would like them to become familiar with the basics of code.
I am a fifth grade teacher within a Title 1 School in Pennsylvania.
My school has over 600 students, all of which fall below the poverty line. Unfortunately, my school and my students do not have much access to technology. In order to compete in the real world, I want to prepare my students with necessary 21st Century skills.
My Project
My students need tablets for learning coding while in the classroom. Tablets would assist me in teaching the basics of code, while simultaneously engaging and preparing my students for their future. With the tablets, I plan to utilize free apps, such as CodeAcademy and LightBot. These coding apps, which are appropriate for elementary and middle school students would also help to improve my students’ critical thinking skills and engage in problem solving tasks. With continued practice, students will be able to use coding language to begin to create their own video games.
Any donation to my project is appreciated.
My students are eager to learn and excited to expand their knowledge of computer language and technology. I would be so excited to bring the tablets into my classroom and spark my students’ creativity.
