My students need an iPod, View-Master Virtual Reality viewers and Ozobots to experience new technologies and to continue improving their coding skills.
I am a very lucky person. I teach the most amazing and curious students. They absorb every experience and lesson I share with them. I set high expectations for each of my students and they never cease to amaze me.
Unfortunately, over 60% of our students receive free or reduced lunches.
We are also a Title 1 school. This past fall our school board was forced to be proactive and put a freeze on the entire county's budget. This makes it very difficult for me to keep up with my students' enthusiasm and desire to learn new things. It is my job to bring new technologies that will help my students develop their 21st century skills and this is difficult to do with such limited funding. Our community members are very supportive and help when they can.
My Project
Augmented Reality (AR) was a novelty when it first came to light. Over the years AR has developed into a sophisticated technology that my students can benefit from.
There are many adventures my students can go on, but more importantly there are many learning opportunities that my students can experience. When students learn about animals they can use specific apps, the iPod and the View Master to observe animals in their natural habitat. They can look 360 degrees around a landmark, they can tour a museum, they can go anywhere in the world and it will almost feel as if they are really there.
Students can also create their own AR. They could add it to a report on the New Market Battlefield or create a tour of our school.
Another educational activity that students love is coding. The Ozobots will allow them to continue to develop their coding skills. Something I know they will enjoy.
My vision is to facilitate these amazing students in experiences they might not otherwise have.
The potential these opportunities will create for my students will enrich their lives and feed their enthusiasm.
They will be able to experience 21st century activities that will help them develop skills they will need in their educational careers and beyond.
