I work in a diverse school district with English Language Learners.
I work in a diverse classroom with children from all over the world.
We have a large free and reduced population. They love to read but I need to provide different levels for each child. This year I have a group of students with a variety of skills. Currently in my reading class, I have students who are at a 3rd grade level all the way up to high school level.
My Project
Currently we are studying Greek Mythology in our classroom. The children will use the graphic novels to research some of the Greek gods and goddesses. They will choose one of the gods or goddesses and write a compare/contrast paper about themselves and one of the gods.
The other graphic novels will be used to teach in my my genre study about graphic novels. We will be looking at setting, plot, conflict and theme.
Students will be able to use differentiated sources in the study of myths and elements of a story.
Students who are lower will have an opportunity to read an age appropriate book that also provides them with visuals. Other students will be able to compare graphic novels with traditional novels.
