Everyone recalls their junior high social studies experience...BORING! Regardless, I fell in love with social studies. I made a promise that I would make social studies a hands on and creative experience for my students. By the end of the school year, I hope to create a love for learning.
I teach 7th and 8th grade social studies.
My students are fantastic; each day they surprise me with their enthusiasm to learn and their courage to try new things. Our school has such a wonderful environment filled with respect and care, that has an overwhelming support for students throughout their academic, athletic, and arts careers. This extends to the community, where each school event is standing room only. Students, educators, and parents are lucky to have a strong relationship that drives our children towards success.
My Project
If our classroom were to have a set of chromebooks, we would be able to extend our learning significantly. Students would be able to access primary documents, pictures, and articles. In addition, our students are fortunate enough to all have a Google account. With this available in the classroom, they could access ways to transform their learning utilizing Google documents, presentation, spreadsheets, drawing, and diagrams. In addition, the new Google classroom app has made it even easier for students to access assignments and have a better organized system of record keeping (as opposed to a messy binder and lost papers). Each assignment and handout I would give would also be uploaded to their account. Students can also utilize everything they need from their Google account anywhere; at home, the library, and even on their phones.
The world we live in today is technology driven, with something new at our fingertips almost everyday.
Utilizing technology in the classroom will not only help improve our content learning, but will also help our students throughout their academic careers.
