My Students
My students are in love with the game of chess! Unfortunately, most of them do not have any opportunity to play the game outside of my class.
I teach the 3rd, 1st, and Kinder students at my school how to play chess.
They are eager to learn how to play, since I only see each class once a week for 1.5 hours at a time. Our school is a charter school in Texas made up of a variety of students. One common element of their education is their love for the game of chess.
My Project
I have requested 10 chess timers which are specifically designed to make an ordinary game of chess become what is known as "Blitz chess." Chess timers will bring my students to a tournament level of chess skills. An efficient chess player in a chess tournament not only opens doors to scholarships and notoriety, but also internally teachers prioritizing, patience, problem solving and sportsmanship. Chess timers will transform my class from ordinary chess players to the competitive learners that I know they can be.
I'm passionate about how important chess can be to a child's life.
One of our school's core ideas is not just for one to think, but for one to think before one acts. Chess creates an opportunity for my students to learn the diligence needed to solve difficult problems and evaluate every aspect of a single situation. For every student who learns to love the game of chess, there is one more student who will learn to overcome adversity in life.
