Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our fine arts magnet school is located in a vibrant and diverse community. Although we are in a high poverty district, our school has been able to retain our fine arts magnet status. However, it has been a challenge to find the funding for technology.

Jesse Jackson once said, "I am - Somebody.

I may be poor, but I am - Somebody! I may be on welfare, but I am - Somebody! I may be uneducated, but I am - Somebody! I must be, I am a God's child. I must be respected and protected. I am black and I am beautiful! I am - Somebody!" One hundred percent of our students are on free and reduced-price lunch. Many of our families are struggling to get by and do not have computer technology at home. However, my students are enthusiastic curious learners. Therefore, I want them to have any technology they need to further their education.

My Project

A Civil Rights education is a must in our schools and my diverse community. We have to teach our students the value of our differences. Yes, we are all individuals with different backgrounds, ethnicities and beliefs, but the dreams and values are the same. We have to reinforce the values and beliefs of all our Civil Right heroes like Martin Luther King Junior who fought valiantly for our human rights. Diversity is beautiful, it is what makes us unique, but we all desire one thing in common "to be treated equally." I want my students to honor all our heroes, to learn how they fought so that we now have a better life with equal rights. A media storage cart would be used to house the laptop obtained from a previous Chase civil rights project plus a classroom LCD projector.

If the laptop and projector were readily accessible our class would be able to use them instantly to show videos and speeches made by important leaders in our history.

If a student had a spontaneous question about what was just viewed we could dig deeper with this ready-to-go technology on this specialized cart!
