My students need books that help to increase their self-worth, as well as books that teach the very important concepts of social justice, racism, and tolerance in order to live peacefully in a diverse world.

My Students
The students are unique in many different ways. First of all, the student population is very diverse racially as well as socioeconomically. Our students have the privilege of attending school with other students who are unlike them in many ways, which naturally creates an environment which encourages and nurtures tolerance beginning at a very young age. This is an education in itself for our wonderful students, and helps to prepare them for a world that is diverse as well.
The diversity of the students is our greatest attribute.
We strive very hard each day to ensure that every student is made to feel safe, special, and appreciated. Without these components in place, it is extremely difficult to impart knowledge, for those things are the foundation for educating.
My Project
The student population is very diverse racially, as well as socioeconomically. These differences can sometimes lead to misunderstandings and assumptions that create barriers when interacting with individuals from a different backgrounds.
The books that I have carefully chosen will expose my students to sensitive issues that are often not discussed as a component of the general curriculum.
It is imperative to begin with self-acceptance, as this is a prerequisite for tolerance and compassion for others.
My students will greatly benefit from from these books, as they will help them become aware of the importance of living successfully in a diverse world peacefully.
