"Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand." This Chinese Proverb describes the challenge facing our science students in the technological world without appropriate discovery learning tools. We need four microscopes to meet this learning challenge.
Our students come from a small agricultural community in Oklahoma.
The science program from this rural school is directed by one instructor and a small budget for learning materials. Two primary needs must be met. A high level college preparatory program and in-depth science program would be complimented by microscope technology. The second need is the correlation of science to the world of agriculture. In addition to global learning concepts, students will also uncover how science is utilized in farming, ranching, crop production, veterinary science and animal husbandry. This knowledge will come to life through first hand microscope activities which are shared with younger students, parents, community, and guest speakers.
My Project
Science classes will be divided into five teams with four students on each team and will learn about crime investigation from forensic entomology to writing analysis. Junior high and high school students will have fun learning about forensic science while developing their observation and critical thinking skills. Hands-on activities dealing with life, earth, and physical science topics will be integrated with clues discovered through microscope discovery activities. Students will acquire college preparatory science skills, teamwork, and a lifelong love for learning!
Helen Keller said "AÂ life is either a daring adventure or nothing," and this excitement for learning should be shared with students in the classroom daily.
These exciting science adventures made possible through this microscope discovery will open new worlds for our students. They will envision possibilities of cancer cures, technology visions, and global solutions that have previously been undiscovered. This project will help prepare our scientists of tomorrow!
