Captivating Carousel of Creativity

My students need basic art supplies, such as paper, paint, paintbrushes, pastels, and coloring pencils. These supplies will help them express their pain and hardships.

My Students

Every minute of Art time is very precious to my students. Each class anxiously waits for art everyday.

Our school is a community of learners of all types.

Every child offers something special to our community as well as many challenges. Our school serves students with emotional needs, as well as children with Autism. Those are the students that benefit from my art program the most. When the school year begins I am afraid I will disappoint all children by not having enough art supplies to produce art. Please do not allow my students to be striped of their right to create.

My Project

My art program offers students a form of therapy and a moment of inclusion, where they do not feel labeled or judged. Most students feel very stressed, defeated, angry, or have high anxiety levels when presented with a task. Children at Thomas Holme Elementary need art to express themselves, and also to release all the negativity and stress they bring to school from broken homes. In order to accomplish these goals I am asking for clay, paper mache glue, tissue paper, tempera paint and many other supplies. Clay has a very calming effect, it's therapeutic, and it is an outstanding sensory development activity for little hands. Paint is effective with every child, but children with Autism benefit the most because art stimulates the brain and calms the nervous system alleviating the effects of autism.

Art helps children heal.

At Thomas Holme Elementary we believe that despite the many challenges children and teens face - illness, rape, divorce, hunger,separation, grief- their hearts can mend and they can thrive once again. Art for many students is the motivation behind their presence in school. Through the received donations we will be able to give our students hope for better tomorrow.
