Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

100 students who love to create projects come through my class each day. They love to learn and when they love learning, they work hard and become lifelong learners. They just need the right tools to make it happen, so frustration and discouragement do not set in.

Over 60% of the students in our school receive free and reduced lunches.

These children are so curious about things outside their own world and want to research to find out more about all kinds of topics. Interviewing a student/class/professional online or in person are just a few ways to enlarge their world that is affordable. There is a large population of minority students in my classes. Most of these students don't even have Internet access at home. They deserve the best tools available at school.

My Project

It's taken two years to get a new computer and a scanner for our 'Creation Station'. Students can now research online to find resources or scan their own to add to their project. They can upload materials or search online for them. The possibilities are endless. Being able to narrate a project or interview another class/person will be amazing! Peers can learn from each other and family members can see what their children are learning. Other connected classrooms will be able to share as well! When students prepare for a local/online interview with another student, class, or professional, they work so much harder than usual. They edit and practice over and over. If they know they can be heard clearly, they become excited about their own learning.

Many of these children have never heard their own voice recorded before.

Imagine how they'll feel when they do! Often times when students listen to themselves read or narrate they realize the errors they're making and learn to self correct. Peers sometimes learn better from each other. With a microphone, students will be able to see AND HEAR each others' projects. They will be able to share with families nearby and in other states or countries online!
