Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are charged and ready to learn. We have just implemented our 1:1 iPads into our curriculum for the year. We cannot wait to get connected to the world!
I teach in a Title 1 school in Texas where 83% of my students are on free/reduced lunch.
Even though they have many struggles at home, you would never know it by their attitudes. I have never had a group of students that was so respectful of their peers and the things in our classroom. If they notice something out of place, they take the time to fix it. If they notice someone is upset, they take the time to see what is wrong. I am truly impressed with their hearts.
My Project
I am requesting a class set of headphones. We are so lucky to each have an iPad in our classroom. The students absolutely love learning with technology and connecting with other 1st graders around the world. We can also connect with our parents while at school. Unfortunately, my students cannot all afford headphones for our iPads. In past years, my students have purchased headphones and brought them to school. These headphones typically last about a week before the cheap cord is wadded up or until they just stop working completely. There are so many more activities that we can participate in as a class if everyone had a decent set of head phones. There are some things that can only be done with headphones, so the students that have no headphones do not have to miss out.
I am hoping to eliminate the frustrations of cheap headphones that only last a few days.
I also want every single student to be able to participate in all activities and not hear the dreaded "Turn your sound down!" They should be able to enjoy their technology to its' full extent.
