My Students
Remember the first time you stepped in front of an audience? Maybe you were a natural performer! Or maybe, like most, you experienced some jitters. My students need a mic so instead of focusing on volume they can focus on sharing their stories with pride.
My students come from countries all over the world.
Most speak 2, if not more, languages. Somalia, Nigeria, Japan, and Ireland are only a few of the countries represented. Each of them brings with them rich experience that enhances our classroom climate. Since English is not the first language for most of my students, I work hard to surround them with language and help them feel welcome. Since we are an Inner city school with about 70% of students eligible for free and reduced lunch, classroom donations are limited.
My Project
My students are very proud of the work that they do. They feel comfortable sharing in front of their classmates, but when there are visitors in our classroom, they begin to feel nervous. With reassurance and support, they overcome their fear, put on a brave face, and stand in front of the crowd. However, their voices often come out very quietly, or even in a whisper. As adults, we use aids such as cue cards and microphones to help us speak to large groups. A microphone would help my students project their voices proudly so parents and friends can see their hard work.
I am also asking for an extra mic, some extra mic clips, batteries, a charger, and a storage case to ensure our mic system can keep functioning for a long time.
According to the Washington Post, public speaking is the #1 fear in America!
Help my students overcome their fear by giving their voices a much-needed boost. Then nothing can stand in the way of their much-deserved pride.
