Camp Read A Lot!-Give Us An R for Reading Readiness!
My students need alphabet pebbles, sand trays, Mangatabs and DVDs to help them learn their letters and sounds while providing engaging and fun new materials in class.
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” ~ Dr. Seuss. Do you recall what materials you used to begin learning your letters and sounds? A variety of interesting materials are needed to assist in mastering these foundational skills.
We are a city school in Illinois with a low socioeconomic population and children who love to learn!
Our school serves pre-kindergarten through fourth grade students.
89% of the students in our school qualify for free or reduced lunches. My students are very active and love and appreciate all the fun activities we do that stimulate and extend each and every learning opportunity. It is a pleasure and honor to provide materials that celebrate each child's importance in my classroom family. They are so excited when I am able to provide new and exciting hands on activities and materials in our environment. My students develop a love for their classroom environment and their classroom family throughout the year in large part due to the ownership they develop in it and the fun and meaningful experiences we share together. These reading and writing materials will provide exciting new experiences for them in the areas of reading and writing as they learn these important foundation skills.
My Project
The materials selected will provide diverse materials to equip children to learn and write their alphabet letters and letter sounds. The materials will reinforce skills in a new way! They will add excitement and interest to our current learning to keep it fresh and interesting! The alphabet soup game, alligator connectors, and alphabet pebbles will provide a variety of experiences in recognizing and matching upper and lower case letters. The letter sand trays and Magnalab trays will provide additional experiences in both identifying and correctly forming and writing upper and lower case letters. Alphabet, phonics and reading DVDs will provide educational interest during our daily "quiet time," while reinforcing these foundational skills in language arts and reading. The variety of tactile, visual, and auditory materials will provide a variety of approaches to suite all learning styles. Reading pouches will hold reading materials while we work in small groups with the materials.
My students will benefit greatly from all of these wonderful reading readiness materials.
I believe they will provide a rich and diverse approach to teaching letter identification, sounds and correctly writing letters in large and small groups, and accommodate a variety of learning styles. The materials will be shared with additional students in other classrooms and extend learning beyond the walls of my own classroom, both in regular and special education. Students will want to read "S'more!"
