My Students

Do you ever have days where everything seems to be going wrong? Kiddos have days like that too and sometimes need a way to calm down from the stress of the day. Calming corners are an essential element of a Special Education classroom because they provide a place for students to learn to self-soothe

In a small, rural Missouri town sits our adorable school full of preschool, kindergarten, first, and second grade students.

Our classroom specifically meets the needs of special education students in grades Kindergarten through second grade. We celebrate all of our differences and welcome our uniqueness. We learn from each other and lift each other up through acts of leadership, kindness, and respect.

My Project

Students with special needs can struggle learning new ideas and concepts. With struggles come frustrations. Some students have difficulties working through these frustrations and need a specific area to calm down and self-soothe. These tools we are requesting will help in this process, making our classroom run more comfortably and effectively.

By having this calming corner, our students will be able to work through their frustrations without having to be removed from the classroom.

The corner will also allow our classroom to continue functioning with other students who are still working.
