This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My typical classroom day includes time for independent reading in a variety of genres.

My students often do not have books at home nor do they frequent bookstores or public libraries to buy or borrow books.

The classroom is their primary source for checking out and reading books. Additionally, I will be requiring the students to read 20 books this upcoming school year.

My Project

The students will use these materials to enrich the social studies curriculum. The materials consist of both fiction and non-fiction books about California History. The fictional books will give a different perspective of California History in a more relaxed manner and the non-fiction books will be used to gather information for writing.

This project will make a difference by putting additional books into the hands of young readers.

These books will increase my current classroom library to include titles about California History which is currently lacking in my library.
