Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love solving new problems and challenges presented to them in my STEM class. They are eager to think outside the box and create new solutions. I am always looking for new ways to challenge them in today's ever changing world! I want to include new technologies for them to explore!

I work in a Title I school were my students struggle everyday to overcome the obstacles presented to them by their socioeconomic statuses.

No matter what their situation is they always show a willingness to work and an excitement to learn. My students have very little knowledge of how computers or programing works. I want to teach them these valuable skills to spark some new excitement and career thinking in their young minds before they fall in the trap of thinking they can never achieve their goals. I want to help teach them 21st Century skills that can enhance their future goals.

My Project

My Kinder, 1st and 2nd graders can use these to learn basic computer coding skills that they can use to enrich their future. Kindergarten and 1st grade will learn how to program their robots so that they can move around a maze of blocks while learning directional names. 2nd grade will be able to program their robots to move around a large map while writing directions for others to follow so they can repeat the same paths. They will learn names of directions, map skills, writing directions and how to papers, while also learning programing skills that increase with the grade level.

Since I work in a Title 1 school, my students do not get to interact with this kind of technology when they leave us for the day.

Therefore, this will encourage them to think in a new way! They will love these bee bots and will encourage them to learn how to program, a skill that can lead them to bigger and better things as they get older! This will give them an opportunity to see and think about new career options that will have never been presented to them outside of a school setting.
