This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Play is our brain's favorite way of learning." - Diane Ackerman
My students enjoy working independently, at library centers. Library centers provide opportunities for creative exploration. My students lead such busy lives, both at school and at home. They need time for constructive learning.
Welcome to the Library Media Center, where everything is awesome!
Our library serves almost 500 students, in grades K4-5th grade, with weekly library lessons, stories, and information literacy instruction, all served with a technology and media arts integration twist.
Everyday I am amazed at my library students' excitement for reading, collaboration, and technology. Our library strives to provide a safe, engaging, and nurturing hub of learning, for all of our students. No matter what challenges they face outside of school, my students know that they are valued and appreciated, whenever they visit the library.
My Project
This year I have developed library centers for students, to encourage interaction, creativity, and foster a sense of exploration. Puzzles, blocks, art stations, technology, and book reading centers provide choices for everyone. Our students LOVE library centers, especially anything related to constructing or building. My kindergarten students, especially love, anything involving building and working together!
Picture this: small groups of Kindergarten library students, working together exploring, creating, and problem solving. With the addition of blocks, Legos, and Magna-Tiles, this will be a reality.
These building materials will spark my students' imaginations and encourage constructive play. Students will be given a weekly theme, related to literacy or technology. They may choose to build a creation related to this theme, or design a project of their choice.
Legos, blocks, and Magna-Tiles in the library, will thrill my kindergarten library students.
They crave access to constructive materials, and I absolutely want to encourage their creativity and imaginative play. We have students of varied backgrounds, and while some students have access to blocks and Legos at home, there are many more that do not.
