My Students
The Engineering department offers students a variety of curriculum ranging from design, alternative energy, transportation, and robotics. Our courses infuse science and math with hands-on engineering projects. Students research, design, and create working prototypes to solve real world problems.
Our students are energetic and exciting young adults that range in ability level and ages.
Our courses are offered to 9-12 graders and we offer regular and honors level courses to meet student needs and provide a challenging curriculum. Our students work individually and in groups to solve problems and draw conclusions about their work. We enlist the services of a math and science teacher to bring core subject areas to life in our everyday experiences and show students the value of math, science, and engineering in the real world. Our students are insightful and curious and often times challenge us to enhance curriculum and class projects. Our classes are filled with students of different backgrounds, learning experiences, and educational needs. Our school houses a deaf and hard of hearing center for the county, so our learning experiences take on different approaches everyday.
My Project
Our current classroom setup is made up of 2 spaces: a Computer Aided Design (CAD) Lab and an Applications Lab. The CAD lab allows students the opportunity to research, plan, and design their projects. Once plans are finalized students begin work in the Applications Lab which is a traditional Industrial Arts Shop that has been updated to allow for new technology.
Our goal with the MakerBot 3D printer is to give students a new learning experience in design and manufacturing. The printer will allow us to use existing CAD software to design components that can be used and tested with student work. The printed parts can be analyzed and tested and then reproduced if necessary.
The printer will give students the necessary skills and experience that they will encounter in college and future careers.
In an ever changing technological world it is important for us to expose students to every tool possible to prepare them for future challenges and experiences. In addition, we feel the printer will spark curiosity and interest in technology that will promote life long learning in our students.
