When preparing students for the careers that await them in the future, experience using technology will not be optional. My students need greater access to technology in the classroom.
I teach 30 amazing 4th graders!
Our public school is located in a mid-sized suburban town in Northern California. We have a very active school community...which is especially important, as virtually all of the money our school receives for classroom needs comes from PTA fundraisers. My students work hard every day and I strive to give them the best educational experience possible.
My Project
Nothing excites my students more than electronics and technology, which is fantastic, because computer skills are a necessity for most any job. I have 30 students, but only 5 aging computers in my classroom. And, while this is more than many classrooms have, it is still a 6:1 ratio, which does not allow many students with much individual use time. With 5 Chromebooks, that would be 10 devises in the classroom for 30 students! This will allow students to research online, create videos and PowerPoint presentations, and explore in a way that extends learning beyond workbooks or worksheets.
Teachers understand the importance of providing students with "21st Century Skills" that will enable students to be successful in the future.
But this is very difficult with limited technology in the classroom. Bringing Chromebooks into the classroom will enable students to not only gain comfort and familiarity with technology, but will allow students to research and learn new skills in an exciting and inspiring way.
