My students need new whiteboards, markers, dry erase pockets, and 10 take-home book bags for small group instruction and to take home as homework for practice at home.

When you take a look into my classroom, you will see lots of love and lots of life. Unfortunately, our classroom materials have been loved so much that there is no longer any life left in them. We need new supplies!
My students are struggling readers and writers in 1st through 5th grade in one of the most urban and poverty stricken cities in the state of Iowa, with over 85% of our students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches.
The students I work with are eager learners who love technology and desire to be better readers and writers.
My Project
My students have been caring for the materials in the classroom on a daily basis, but after 5 years of use, there isn't much life left in them. The book bags students use every day to take home books to practice reading are falling apart. The book bags are ripped, falling apart, and are held together by tape. Our whiteboards are discolored and peeling. Our whiteboard markers are faded and hard to see when we write. The page protectors we write on are scratched and discolored. And while you won't hear my students complain about our materials, we really need someone to breathe new life into the materials we have access to in the classroom. Having updated materials in the classroom will allow us to focus less on distractions that don't help my students advance in the skills and strategies they use to help themselves in reading and writing and instead be able to take materials home with them to apply what they are learning in the classroom and practice at home.
My students have been using materials that are over 5 years old and have never once complained when we've had to fix something with tape.
My students are happy and eager learners who need new materials so we can take the focus off of taping something back together and put the focus back on learning to read and write.
