My students need lots of different leveled books as they are beginning to read and will advance in their reading skills as they progress through their first grade year.

My Students
Expand our minds! My students will be coming to me in first grade at all different levels of reading. Students in first grade not only learn to read, but they also read to learn about their lives and their environment. Help provide my students with a variety of books that will motivate them to read!
My students are first graders, six and seven years old, that come from a variety of ethnic, as well as socioeconomic backgrounds.
They attend an elementary school that serves grades Pre-K through fourth. They enjoy reading and learning about many different topics including science, social studies, and math.
My Project
These beginning reading book sets I have requested will help my students grow as readers with confidence. My students will be able to choose from their appropriate reading level so that they can be successful readers.
As they grow throughout the year, they will continue to increase their reading level and ability. My students will use these books for independent reading as well as partner reading. They will be able to participate in our Accelerated Reader Program after reading these books by taking a comprehension quiz on the computer to earn points for prizes, which can greatly motivate reluctant readers.
My students will create journal responses to the stories they read in these books and share their reading experience with the class, as well as their parents. They will apply many reading strategies and comprehension skills that have been taught while reading these books. These books will take my students to new heights of learning!
Students in first grade are very impressionable.
It is extremely important to get students excited about reading early. Reading is the foundation for all the learning students will encounter in their lives.
With these books, they will have a greater variety of reading experiences that will help them grow to be strong, motivated readers. With a solid reading foundation, my students will become Super Readers who go on to share their love of reading with others including siblings, peers, and parents!
