Book Worms

My students need Battle of the Book titles, duplicate copies of our required literature and book club selections. The easel is for students' projects and display.

My Students

Never thought I'd have to say "please put away your books," but my students LOVE to read! Most of our books are wearing out from years of love and need to be replaced. Ever overhear one student tell another, "You've just got to read this!"? I hear it all the time.

My students have a deep love of nature.

They enjoy our environmental studies and gardening classes. Their curiosity is never-ending and they fully understand the need for research. Their imaginations lend to their exploration of all matter and gives them a keen understanding of literature. Their reading repertoire includes all genre's but many of our book clubs will be realistic fiction. These boys and girls are the reason I teach.

My Project

My students need books like Crickwing, Frindle, Stranded, and Wonder. Some of the requested books will be used in our read-aloud/along literature series, others are for our class library, and still others will be used in our literature circles or book clubs. Students will also read the books required to participate in our district's reading competition.

Reading for enjoyment needs to continue - which means a larger selection is needed.

Participants make choices and meet socially in a productive setting with guidance. "Literature circles can be a place for cooperative learning. Students help each other understand a text and make sense of it. Lit circles teach kids how to use each other as resources and become independent learners". (Edutopia)
