The art challenges the technology, and the technology inspires the art.
- John Lasseter
I feel technology is the wave of the future. I feel we need to have children completely comfortable with the use of technology. This includes all areas, including art.
My students are a group of curious, fun, and energetic first graders.
They want to do well in school, and want to please their teacher. My school is in rural Arkansas. We are a Title I school with a high number of poverty students, but also a large population of English as a Second Language students.
My Project
These materials will be used in the small group setting to help my students learn vocabulary words by having the students illustrate the meaning. I will also use them during guided reading to have students illustrate the setting, problem/solution, and main characters in the books they are reading. These boogie boards will also be used to write high-fluency words, write and correct sentences, and to brain storm words that fit a certain pattern to practice spelling. First grade students illustrate multiple times a day to quickly show their understanding on all topics. These devices could potentially become my go to item to work with interventions with my low academic achieving and ELL students. I also want to limit the purchase of expendables to help my classroom to become more environmentally friendly. I hope in the future to have a class set of these amazing boogie boards, so each student will have their own for quick assessment during whole-group time.
This project will give me another tool in my arsenal to reach each and every student.
They will help me to get more technology into the hands of each student. This project will help all students, but I feel it will become an essential tool in helping those struggling make gains in becoming on grade level educational wise with their peers. This project will help my classroom to become more environmental friendly and cut down on the quantity of paper we use.
