My students need REAL burets for their titration labs. We have really old ones with numbers nearly worn off, and rubber tubing and pinch clamps to control fluid flow!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our public high school serves a largely low income and English-learning community. Our students do not have a lot of opportunities for enrichment, so they depend on school to prepare them for their future.
Our Science Department's budget has been drastically cut this year to only about $10/student (which will also have to pay for copying costs!).
There is no money for items like burets.
Our top students graduate and attend top local public universities, and they need to be prepared for the challenges they will face in order to ensure their success as they pursue their dreams. Most of them will be first in their families to attend college, and so we are trying to prepare them for this experience. We have a new Medical and Biotech Academy on our campus and a lot of my students are interested in pursuing careers in this area. Just because their community isn't wealthy shouldn't limit their options! They are bright, hard-working, friendly young people who have a lot to offer our society.
My Project
With modern burets that actually have legible numbers and Teflon stopcocks, our students will be able to perform some acid-base titration experiments that will better prepare them for college. The old ones available are not adequate to provide precise and accurate measurements, which are necessary to do real calculations. The numbers are nearly worn away, and they do not have stopcocks. We use rubber tubing with pinch clamps to control fluid flow! With these burets they will be able to determine the concentration (molarity) of a base when given the concentration of an acid. This type of experiment will be typical of more complex experiments they will encounter in their college chem labs.
I'm requesting your support to purchase nice new burets that are necessary to perform acid-base titration experiments in my chemistry classes.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
