This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every student deserves to have access to great books. Unfortunately, my students face a difficult financial situation that prevents them from having access to great books at home and in school.

I have the privilege of teaching a group of 22 amazing kindergarten students.

During the past few weeks I had the pleasure of seeing them grow and develop into outstanding students. However, as the school year progressed, I noticed that my kids were anxious to read and to take books home to show their parents, but unfortunately, the classroom lacks books in Spanish. My kids are discovering their love for reading. They love to explore the new worlds that can be found in a book, but, we have no books we can start exploring.

My Project

I want my kids to discover Dr. Seuss. I want them to develop a deep love for reading that will encourage them to become better readers and better students in the long run. I've seen how their faces light up every time we visit the school library and they get to check out a new book. My kids are thirsty for more books. But my classroom has only a few books in Spanish, their native language. As my kids start learning how to read, they will need more books to practice their reading skills. They will also need more books to read to their classmates and to read on their own. My kids need new worlds to explore and to learn. That is why we need books for our library.

Because I've seen the transformation in my kids faces when they get a new book in their hands, I want them to have more resources available for them.

Those books will become worlds my kids can explore. And they can't wait to start exploring.
