My students need the LEGO Mindstorm kit and a Chromebook to serve as a command station to introduce and expose them to the world of programming and robotics.
Robots have been an obsession of my kids across the two years I've been teaching. Usually, their robots are made of cardboard boxes, blocks, Lagos and paper. Imagine their reaction when they create real robots, when their creations come to life and begin to move on their own by their command.
"I've watched through their eyes, I've listened through their ears, and I tell you they're the ones."
Our kids are young, ambitious, and curious but there's darkness lurking about that's much too serious.
Per-k is a time to explore and play, to imagine and create until the end of the day.
But the trouble that's looming seems to be blooming.
Academic rigor! Academic rigor! They're telling us to grow up much much quicker.
They want to prepare us to be college ready, we want to go to college but at a pace that's steady.
Our parents can't help us of the troubles that's lurking, it's not their fault! They're too busy working!
It's up to you to help us keep our childhood we're about to lose, you wonderful people, the people of Donors Choose!
My Project
The unique building tool, LEGO Windstorm, this project is requesting will help our students build beyond the basic blocks. With new approaches to building, our per-kindergarten builders will view building from a new perspective as opposed to the standard block building.
Creative thinkers who create innovative inventions think differently. With a new way to build and new resources to explore, this project will allow my students to think outside of the block. With a vast amount of Lagos, the next step is to command them through programming.
Programming and commanding is a science. Science isn't about why, it's about why not? And Why not allow our young children to be young programmers. If we foster the love of learning at a young age, our students will grow up to be life long learners constantly seeking knowledge.
My goal as an educator isn't to give my students answers.
Instead, it's to guide them as they look for different ways to find various solutions. I wish to create divergent thinkers who are able to adapt to a changing environment and are versatile when they are faced with challenges. Toys won't directly lead to this, but being given various opportunities to think differently will. Imagine, taking part in developing young program developers. Imagine no longer and take part in this opportunity now!
