Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year is our school's first year with an art program! Starting an art program from the ground up without much funding is extremely challenging.
My students are excited to have art class for the very first time. They deserve quality materials like other schools. Help us make this a great year!
We are a large PreK-8 Chicago public school located in a diverse, low-income neighborhood.
We have around 1,100 students.
My students are extremely bright and spirited. They work hard and are looking forward to their first art class. Please help us make their first art class a worthwhile experience.
My Project
I have requested a variety of basic art materials such as paint, brushes, glue, yarn, charcoal, color wheel, and canvas paper. These resources will allow my students to try their hand at many different types of art making techniques for the very first time.
We will use the paint and brushes for many different types of painting and mixed media projects. The mosaic and fabric will be used for collages and a possible mural. The film transparency will be used for making layered identity portraits. The middle school grades will use charcoal and canvas panels for some more advanced projects.
This project is so important to me because I reflect back on when I was in elementary school.
Art was my favorite subject and I cannot imagine a school year where students do not engage in visual arts activities. We are fortunate this year, however we are in need of basic supplies.
I believe every student deserves an opportunity in visual arts. Please help us make a quality art class a reality for our new artists!
