My Students

My students are engaged in project building which introduces them to the world of engineering. Students are immersed in Project-Based Learning daily. "According to classical dynamics, its impossible for a bumblebee to fly." -Doctor Who

We are a new STEAM school that only houses 6th and 7th grade students.

Next school year we will have 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. My class sizes are 24 students and there are six classes. Classes are 90 minutes each. Students at my school receive a rigorous, well-rounded education. The 21st-century skills that I teach to my students are: collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. My goal, as their engineering teacher, is to create a highly-engaging environment of exploration and enjoyment through creativity and technology. Through project-based learning, my students are able to grow individually and explore the world of engineering. The key to success for my students is my having high expectations, both in academics and behavior, and my challenge to them is to always to think outside the box. Students turn to their peers for collaboration, problem solving, and feedback on projects. This allows them to create the best designs possible and keeps them engaged.

My Project

Students will have the opportunity to explore the career field of aerodynamic engineering through designing Air Racers and Airplanes, building these projects, and testing the aerodynamics of each. Each student will be able to learn about aerodynamics, different types of forces, and Bernoulli's principle. Students will use the requested hoverboard to assist them in learning how hover boards and aerodynamics work and being able to use new technologies to improve their projects and build a working hovercraft. This unit will allow them to delve into this world and through project-based learning they will have a greater understanding of the design process that is used to create new technologies.

This project will offer the students the opportunity to explore multi-disciplinary curricula.

They will gather a greater understanding of the career field - Aerodynamic Engineering. Students use the engineering design process over a course of several weeks to design, build, and test, evaluate, and retest their projects. My students will have real-world experience through project-based learning for 21st-century thinking skills.
