Our school district provides us with basic art supplies such as crayons and colored pencils, but for many of the interdisciplinary projects planned this year, we need to go beyond the everyday supplies and use high quality artists' materials.
I teach fourth grade in Los Angeles, Ca.
I have thirty-one students in my class and their diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds truly reflect our great city. The students love interdisciplinary projects where they can use their creativity and imagination to create art which showcases their learning.
My Project
I am requesting individual sketchbooks for each child so that they can not only hone their drawing skills, but record their observations of our class garden, draw character sketches for fictional stories they are writing, and so much more. The remaining materials are to be used in special projects related to different units of study. For example, during our Gold Rush unit, students will use the Roylco paper to create treasure maps and write fictional letters home from the gold fields of California.
The requested materials will help add another dimension of creativity to our classroom and deepen students' understanding of various subjects.
These materials will be used over the course of the entire school year.
