There is nothing better to a student than giving him some construction paper, some art supplies and letting him create a masterpiece. Imagination and creativity are a must in a well-balanced curriculum. I often use art to enrich our social studies and literacy curriculum.
I teach about 28-30 curious and enthusiastic second graders each year.
We are a Title I school in New York City. The range of the students in our school ranges from ELLs to Gifted and Talented Students. Some students live with limited means. In addition to my homeroom class, I also teach a morning school class. In the past I have taught both remedial and enrichment morning school programs. I also teach an after school class for students who need additional support.
My Project
About 4 years ago, I received a grant through DonorsChoose for a large amount of arts and crafts supplies. Those supplies lasted through 4 second grade classes as well as numerous morning and after school enrichment activities. In total, that grant reached about 200 students. This proposal is very similar. The arts and crafts supplies we are requesting will last for many years to come. Through the years, I've used the supplies in all subject areas - especially social studies and of course - art time! We've made dioramas, maps, paintings, sculptures, projects for our science fair and so much more!
I am hoping that you will be able to donate to our proposal.
It would mean the world to my students this year, as well as those to come. Art activities happen all the time and I am always looking for ways to incorporate it even more! Thanks for considering our classroom!
