Aquatics and Teamwork Making Kids More Independent
To allow my special needs students need Head Float Swim Collars and Will's Floater.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. W.'s classroom raised $458
This project is fully funded
As a speech language pathologist I work with children with multiple impairments including visual impairments, hearing impairments and physical disabilities at the elementary level. The children I service usually receive many services through our special education department including adapted aquatics.
We believe that working as a team most benefits our children. With these flotation devices, we will be able to teach our children about water safety, following directions and help them gain more independence. Over 50 children preschool through sixth grade will benefit from these supplies that can be used from year to year.
The neck collars will allow our children with cerebral palsy and poor head and neck control to participate in water activities while maintaining eye contact and allowing them to communicate with their teachers and peers. Will's Floater will allow the children with more upper body control to participate. While in the pool area the children learn to follow directions, can practice oral motor tasks, learn to coordinate breath support and speech and have fun!
Your help will make it possible for my students to prepare and participate in our end of the school year swim meet. The swim meet allows our children to compete and show family, staff and peers the progress they have made throughout the school year!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
