My Students
My Students live in an economically disadvantaged community and of the almost 700 students in my school, over half are eligible for free or reduced lunch. Despite the many challenges of living and attending school in a poverty area my students are hard-working, resilient and highly motivated.
My students are eager to learn and enthusiastic about school.
They are some of the hardest workers I have ever encountered. They work twice as hard with half as many resources and still manage to keep their motivation to learn strong. They are an inspiration to us all. In my two 3rd grade classrooms, I have 39 students who are active and involved learners. Of the 39, 6 are students with disabilities, 4 are in the GATE program, and 5 receiving afterschool services. I am always looking for new and creative ways to differentiate activities for my students and help them reach their goals. They are always looking for new ways to explore the world around them but often find it hard without the appropriate technology. It is my job to help them forget the grown-up issues they face outside school, and bring fun back into learning. This can be accomplished with your help.
My Project
My students will use the iPad as a form of technology to research and do different activities and to gain knowledge of the world around them. Students will learn how to conduct research on given topics using appropriate apps on the iPad. In addition, they will be given the opportunity to lead student-lead activities and gain the confidence and creative freedom an iPad can give them. The apps I will be sharing with them are creative tools such as, Popplet (story mapping), Educreations (research possibilities), iDairy (for the reluctant paper and pencil writers), and Quizlet (vocabulary builder). For my GATE students, I want to utilize enrichment apps for their use when they are in my classroom.
Your donation will make a difference in my classroom by providing the students with an iPad to use to learn 3rd grade content area material.
The iPad will help engage and motivate my students and teach skills they need in ways whole class settings does not. I plan to incorporate learning apps such as Popplet, Educreations, and Quizlet into my lesson planning to ensure the students with disabilities, GATE, afterschool students, and all others will have meaningful and differentiated tasks.
